The Brief
Years earlier, before GirlBoss LinkUp became a networking community, it started with a simple idea. As two early-career entrepreneurs, we wanted to build visibility for our personal brands while creating a space where women could connect through entrepreneurship, leadership, and shared experiences. Our first initiative was Startup Sundays, a recurring Twitter chat that brought entrepreneurs together each week to discuss branding, marketing, business, and professional development. As the community grew, we recognized an opportunity to take those conversations beyond social media. Together, we evolved Startup Sundays into GirlBoss LinkUp—a community that blended digital engagement with in-person networking experiences, speaker panels, sponsorship opportunities, and educational programming. Rather than building one-off events, our goal was to create a recognizable brand and community that women wanted to return to—online and in person.
The Work
- Build the Brand — Established the visual identity and marketing foundation for GirlBoss LinkUp, creating a recognizable brand experience across digital and in-person touchpoints through sponsorship materials, event branding, social media templates, and promotional assets
- Grow the Community — Developed content and engagement strategies that extended conversations before, during, and after every event; Startup Sundays became the digital heartbeat of the community, encouraging entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, build relationships, and remain connected year-round
- Fill the Room — Planned and executed integrated marketing campaigns supporting recurring networking events, speaker panels, and community programming through social media, email marketing, registration campaigns, and attendee communications
- Support Partnerships — Created sponsorship presentations, partnership materials, and promotional assets to communicate the value of collaborating with GirlBoss LinkUp and support speaker outreach and community partnerships

Field Notes
GirlBoss LinkUp taught me that communities aren't built when people arrive—they're built through every interaction before and after the event. The most successful experiences extended far beyond the stage, creating conversations and relationships that kept people coming back. Looking back, this was my introduction to community-led marketing—an experience that shaped how I think about partnerships, events, and building brands people genuinely want to belong to.
